Bowls: Bainfield set for play-off with Turriff

Have your say

Bainfield must fend off a ‘team of fighters’ this weekend as they battle to retain their Premier League indoor bowls status in a play-off with Turriff in Cumbernauld.

Having just avoided the automatic relegation spot in their Section A campaign, they take on the runners-up in Division 1 North on Sunday (2pm) and it promises to be a tough encounter.

Team manager Alan Brown said: “Turriff have built a reputation over the years as being a team of real fighters but Bainfield also have a strong will to win and I have confidence that we can deliver.

Bainfield recall Daniel Gormley after his involvement in last weekend’s Junior Home International Series win for Scotland.

• NIDDRIE have dropped out of the Edinburgh Bowling League due to falling membership levels – but three new clubs are set to debut in the 2015 season.

Secretary Robert White revealed: “Carrick Knowe, Bainfield and Colinton have all signed up as members of the EBL for 2015 and that is an exciting development as all three have excellent histories in the sport. This brings the number of clubs in the league up to 39.

“There is also an increase in the ladies membership of the EBL with teams from Bainfield and Craigentinny bringing the evening league numbers up to fourteen.”

White also revealed that Capital firm BuyRite Bathrooms are to provide sponsorship for the Knockout Championships.

“We also have confirmation that Specsavers of
Shandwick Place and North Bridge are continuing to sponsor the Edinburgh Cup, while the Gifted Shop of Raeburn Place will back the Ladies League and Cup events.
Alpha Trophies will sponsor our league divisions.”
