Tam Wilson and Kevin Prior of Beechwood stole the headlines in the semi-finals of the Edinburgh & Leith Championships, the underdogs dealing a 15-10 exit to Slateford stars Gordon Ramsay and Robert Marshall in the Coronation Pairs.

In their clash at Wardie, the Beechwood partnership led 12-6, then answered pressure at 12-10 playing the last with a magic count of 3.

There was also a major upset at the other semi-final venue, Mayfield, with-much fancied Parkside trio Robert Donaldson, Andy Hargan and Danny Jackson bundled out of the Triples by Blackhall.

Parkside were never at the races as Andy Lomax skipped Grant Walker and Jim Mellis into a 13-2 lead and although Jackson came late, Blackhall finished good 17-14 winners.

Play in the Junior Singles for the James Fleming Trophy brought a better outcome for Parkside with Neil Watson staying on course to emulate his 2010 title success with a 21-12 win over Dean McNeil of Balerno at Wardie.

At Mayfield, Liam MacKay of Tanfield led Josh Spalding of Craigentinny 16-9, and went on to score an impressive 21-12 victory over the 2011 national runner-up.

In the Pairs at Mayfield, Braid defeated Craigentinny 18-12 in a surprise triumph for Ian Lang and Graeme Walker over EBL division 1 stars Davy Brown and Darren Smith.

Bob White of Tanfield skipped Stuart McKean and Graeme Swan to a 14-9 win over Beechwood in the Triples at Wardie, while the results in the Fours were: Pilrig 18, Queensberry 14; Carrick Knowe 22, Corstorphine 13.
