Bowls: Chloe leads title charge at Abbeyview

Chloe Thomson represents Bainfield in tomorrow’s play-down action of the ladies Scottish Junior Singles Championship and the 18-year-old is bidding to be the first to bring that national title back to Edinburgh.

Thomson competes at Dunfermline venue Abbeyview and has a bye into the second round where she awaits the winner between Aberdeen and Arbroath.

East Lothian provide a major contender in the shape of Emma Logan (nee Brown), who is already an international star with 15 full caps.

Logan has a 10am start in the first round and meets Falkirk challenger Kimberley Dodds.

West Lothian’s Lisa Barrett has three full caps and carries a serious threat against first-round opponent Joanne Stewart of Turriff.

A major threat to the field comes in the shape of East Fife’s Lesley Doig, who has yet to capture this title but enters as the reigning Scottish Singles Champion proper. Doig opens in the first round against Ann Simpson of Elgin and, if successful, will face West Lothian or Turriff in the second round.

Midlothian introduce 16-year old Lorna Goldsmith, who takes on Heather Garvie of Stonehaven in the first round.

East Lothian travel to Galashiels to take on Tweedbank and bring in Megan Kivlin and Muriel Hamilton in place of the unavailable Janet Fairnie and Margaret Devine.

West Lothian face a local derby against Balbardie at Livingston.
