Lorraine Malloy, a member of the Bowls Scotland team that won a clutch of medals at the recent Atlantic Rim Championships, turns her attentions to the qualifying action of the Scottish Indoor Bowls Pairs Championship.

Malloy, who helped the Scots win gold in the Fours and bronze in the Triples in Cyprus, teams up with regular partner Sharon Leitch this weekend as they look to build on their title successes of 2005/6 and 2010/11.

Although neighbour club West Lothian IBC is a venue for today’s play, the Balbardie duo will instead parade their skills at Coatbridge IBC where they have a bye into the first-round proper. Their opposition comes in the shape of West of Scotland IBC duo J Moore and H Torrance and, if successful, they remain at the same venue for tomorrow’s play.

Coatbridge is also the venue for the duos representing West Lothian and Bainfield, with both campaigns being launched in the prelim round.

The WL challenge is formidable in the shape of Jenifer Richardson and Lisa Barrett, two young full caps fired up to enhance their reputations but sure to be tested by Falkirk duo Jane Brooksby and Irene Kilpatrick.

Bainfield are represented by National League stalwarts Karen Tumblety and Marion Dickson. Their opening challenge comes against Cathy Morrison and Alison Strachan of Cowal.

East Lothian have been drawn in the section being played at West Lothian and their hopes are carried by Diane Rowan and Yvonne Veitch. Their opposition in the prelim round is Perth duo Susan Myles and Maureen Morrison.

Midlothian field two players of international reputation in the shape of Kelly McDougall and Gaynor Duncan. A bye into the first round proper (2.00pm) saves them an early rise
