Bowls: Smells like Team spirit at Balbardie

Have your say

Balbardie IBC are through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Team Championship event after beating Tweedbank on shot margin at Stirling following a 4-4 share of the points.

Tweedbank drew first blood with the 21-16 defeat of Balbardie’s Peter Lynch in the Singles while the Bathgate-based team also suffered a disappointing outcome in the Pairs.

The picture had looked rosy at one stage for the partnership of Brian Craig and Lorraine Malloy, who had built up a 14-8 supremacy after 12 ends.

However, the loss of 2, 6, 4, 1 transformed the scoreline to 21-14 against Balbardie and, despite a late flurry, the partnership suffered a 22-19 defeat.

In the Fours, a spectacular 34-13 win for Morven Shearer, Margo Duff, Ritchie Templeton and Ewan Shearer lifted Balbardie hopes and the second victory required came in the Triples from Kim Ross, Sharon Leitch and Walter McDougall in the shape of a 19-9 win.

Balabardie will face defending champions Arbroath at East Fife IBC on Sunday, March 22 after they crushed Elgin 8-0 at Aberdeen. West of Scotland beat Glasgow, 5-3, and will take on Blantyre, who saw off Galleon 6-2.
