MALCOLM COOK of Beechwood will compete for the national title in the Scottish Bowling Finals at Ayr Northfield next month after becoming the inaugural Senior Singles Champion of District 15 in the most dramatic fashion.
Cook clashed with Bill Herd of Slateford in the District Finals at Balerno and it turned into an epic 21-end battle.
Herd look destined for victory as he produced a dominant display to lead 20-8.
However, seven incredible ends later, a massive tidal change of events left Cook celebrating an astonishing victory as he stormed to 21 with a whirlwind run of 2, 3, 4, 2, 1, 1. “This is the stuff that dreams are made of,” said Cook, “but it must be a nightmare for Bill.”
Bainfield carried the day in the Seniors Four with their rink of Jeff Little, Ian Pilley, Mike Sutherland and Eric Thomson encouraged by a 5 at the second end and going on to clinch a 15-10 win over Alan Cairns, John Anderson, Alex Neil and Tam Hill of Currie.
