East Lothian captured the ladies Scottish Indoor Bowls Triples title in season 2013/14 and the same trio – Yvonne Veitch, Margaret Thomson and Emma Logan – are targeting glory again this weekend.
The Logan-skipped trio travel to Blantyre IBC for their qualifying action and face Headwell (Dunfermline) in the prelim round.
Midlothian make the same journey with an equally-strong trio in the shape of internationalists Gaynor Duncan, Jeanette Conlan and Sandra McLeish.
McLeish has won the event on three occasions – twice as skip – although the last of these was back in 2002. Midlothian start with a prelim-round match against Abbeyview (Dunfermline).
Midlothian IBC is also a venue for the play-down action with Bainfield, West Lothian and Balbardie all competing at the Dalkeith Stadium.
Bainfield, who have yet to taste success in the event, are represented by Aimee Robertson, Karen Tumblety and Marion Dickson, who begin against Dumbarton trio Bryony Thomson, Emma McIntyre, and Michelle Keenan. The prize for the winners is a first-round match against Stirling or Teviotdale.
The West Lothian challenge is in the hands of Lynne Greer, Jenifer Richardson and Lisa Barrett, who have a bye into the first round proper and line up against a trio from the West of Scotland IBC.
Balbardie – like WL – seek a first title success but look strong with their trio of Kim Ross, Sharon Leitch and Lorraine Malloy. They open against East Fife’s Havanna Clark, Karen McAndrew and Ceila Smith.
The final stages of the national championship – the last four – takes place at Falkirk IBC over the weekend of April 2-3.
