It’s crunch time tonight in the battle for Division 1 of the Alpha Trophies-sponsored Edinburgh Bowling League with final-round fixtures for title hopefuls Craigentinny and Maitland.

Craigentinny hold a slender one-and-a-half point lead at the top and the record seven-times champions can expect a tough challenge at home from last year’s champions Parkside.

Parkside are destined to finish out of the picture in third place but can damage the leaders although regulars John Bell and Steven Rennie miss the action. Brandon Maywood returns while Gordon Dickson makes his first appearance after a ten-year absence from the first sixteens.

Craigentinny have announced a full-strength team with top-flight skips Ian Paterson, Daniel Gormley, Andy Jeffrey and Andy Caldwell ready for action.

Maitland have kept their team under the wraps as have their Queensberry visitors, who occupy the second-from-bottom relegation position – a desperate three points adrift of Northern.

Northern visit Tanfield while bottom side Pilrig end a miserable season at home to mid-table Hillside.
