TITLE holder Calum Logan was a high-profile casualty in the second round of the Jack High Insurance-sponsored WLBA Junior Open.

The 26-year from Kirkliston made a 21-12 exit to Steven Fleming of Buchan Park, whose 22-end triumph at Blackburn was sparked by a purple patch run of 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1 that accelerated him into an 18-8 lead.

Gareth Simpson of Middleton Hall trailed Stuart Mair of Armadale, 12-0, 13-3, and 15-10 then faced a count of 4 against him. But Simpson killed the lot with a superb last-bowl draw for a single then added 1, 1, 3, 2, 3 to win 21-15 in 21 ends.

Newbridge’s Jamie Aitken and Greg Baldry clashed at Kirkliston and produced a 24-end thriller that Aitken climaxed with a big 4, 1 finish to win 21-17.

Andrew Semple of Newbridge is bidding to reach his third final in a row and the Junior Cap kept on track with a 21-15 win over Nathan McKendrick of Kirkliston at Harrysmuir. And McKendrick’s brother Connor, 21, of Middleton Hall, made a 21-14 exit in to 20 ends to Stuart Ford of Watson Memorial at Kirkliston.
