East Lothian champions West Barns came out on top of a nail-biting 5-3 victory over Angus king pins Carnoustie West End in the preliminary round of The Co-operative Funeralcare Inter County Top Ten.
Billy Mellors was the spearhead figure in the Singles as he served up a strong performance to beat Andy Furye 21-16 in a 24-end battle.
Mellors made an inspiring start to lead 12-3 after ten ends then reached what looked like a 16-5 comfort zone, however, he did come under pressure at 20-16 before carding the winning single.
The climax to the Pairs was an exciting one that was of major significance with Scott Kennedy tipping the scales in favour of the visitors when answering considerable pressure on the final end to card a 3 and skip Kevin Thomson to a 22-18 win over Robert Torrie and Ryan Burnett.
However, the 21-9 defeat of Ian Knox, Gary Landells and Alister Kennedy in the Triples put the outcome in the melting pot with their colleagues in the Fours in danger of also losing.
Calum Gordon and his front-three of Dougie Kennedy, Billy Cormack and Scott Thorburn had slipped from 11-6 up to 16-13 down but edged their way back and carded a single at the last to snatch a 22-22 peel.
