Boxing: Atlantic City appearance beckons for awesome Anderson

edinburgh boxer Kenny Anderson is set to fight in Atlantic City after blasting his way to an impressive third-round stoppage of Portsmouth’s Paul Morby in Sheffield.

The Celtic super-middleweight champion, who had dumped Morby at the end of the second round for an eight count courtesy of a trademark left hook to the head, is now being lined up to appear on the undercard when Carl Froch faces Andre Ward for the world super-middleweight title at the New Jersey resort in December.

Hailing his victory, Anderson said: “I was amazed that Morby staggered up after a count of eight but I sensed he was there for the taking in round three and another left hook did the trick.

“After the fight, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom promotions told me they plan to put me on the undercard of the Froch v Ward bill in December. That would be a huge chance for me to impress in the USA and further strengthen my right to challenge either George Groves or Paul Smith for the British and Commonwealth titles next year. It would mean that I wouldn’t be able to box on Alex Arthur’s next Meadowbank show on December 17 but I’m sure everyone will understand that the Atlantic City chance is simply too big an opportunity for me to miss, career-wise.”
