MGM Scotland promoter Sam Kynoch says he expects Edinburgh to host a number of title fights next year.
It was today announced that the promotion will return to Meadowbank on Saturday, March 12, and Kynoch admits he is hopeful cruiserweight’s Stephen Simmons will be given the opportunity to add to his Celtic title when he steps back into the ring in three months time.
“We’re in negotiations with Simmons just now so I expect there to be a big fight coming his way, certainly a title fight of some sorts,” Kynoch said. “By the end of next year Lewis Benson could very well be within a shot and I expect Stephen Tiffney to really move with the division [super featherweight] he’s fighting in. Brian Forsyth is another we’ll move on quickly as well.”
Kynoch also hailed this month’s ‘Edinburgh Fight Night’ bill as a huge success on a night that saw all the home boxers register victories.
“I was really pleased and felt the guys were tested,” he said. “Benson blew his guy away but in all fairness, that was more a mark of how well he did. I was also really pleased for Forsyth because he stepped up and delivered this time round.”
Meanwhile, Kynoch confirmed Tiffney will box at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday, January 28, at the Burns Boxing Show.
