Have your say

SUPER-HEAVYWEIGHT Gary Fairgrieve’s performance in front of a capacity crowd at the East Lothian winter show was today hailed by club official Calum Colquhoun.

Fairgrieve fired a devastating first-round knockout against Hillpark opponent William McNally at Haddington Corn Exchange and Colquhoun enthused: “Fairgrieve whacked McNally with a thunderous right hand in round one, the referee gave him an eight count then McNally’s corner skied the towel into the ring in surrender – it was awesome!’’

East Lothian welterweight Ian Trotter enjoyed a points win over Chirnside’s Steve Williams which brought him the Best Home Boxer award, and the host club’s welterweight Alan Cockburn beat Craigmillar’s Usman Ahmed.

East Lothian’s light-flyweight Cameron McFayden beat Craigmillar’s Yalcin Genk, while Leith Victoria welterweight Sean Eng outscored Motherwell’s Edward Donoghue.

Leith Vics light-welterweight Sean White responded to be giving a much tougher substitute opponent at short notice when multi-titled Scottish internationalist Bryce Stewart from Stirlingshire beat him by one point.
