Boxing: Sore one for McCallum

Edinburgh boxer John McCallum’s fight with Swansea’s Chris Brophy on Friday, October 28 is off –after the middleweight had his ribs broken by his own trainer.

McCallum, who was due to face his opponent McCallum at Wishaw Sports Centre, suffered the blow while sparring with coach Colin McNeil, a 1998 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist.

McCallum groaned: “I’m gutted – but I hope the fight with Brophy will now go ahead in December. I was sparring with my trainer Colin McNeil when he hit me and the rib injury came as a shock.”
