Boxing: White leads the way for East Lothian

Boxers from East Lothian grabbed junior and schoolboy boxing title glory in grand fashion at the Scottish Junior Championships at Motherwell’s Ravenscraig Centre.

Leading the successful title charge was 12-year-old Chirnside schoolboy Robbie White, whose raking southpaw right jabs and heavy body punching were just too much for opponent from Broadwood John Bailford, who was stopped in the third and final round after taking a standing eight count in their 34kg (born 2000) bout.

Tranent Bronx 42kg boxer Nathan Shaw added a Scottish Schoolboys crown (born 1999) to his already impressive season’s tally of Novice and Intermediate titles by posting a brilliant 7-0 points shut-out against Auchengeich rival Dave Duncan. The Bronx club’s trail of championship success did not end there with East Lothian flyweight Cameron McBeth outscoring Midlothian’s Bernie McLaughlin closely by 3-2 in a tight tussle.
