Craig takes cue from Kenny

Middleweight Craig McEwan will compare notes with fellow Edinburgh boxer Kenny Anderson before he makes his first professional appearance in his home town.

McEwan will face Paul Morby over eight rounds at Meadowbank on April 14. Morby was halted by TKO in three rounds by super-middleweight Anderson last October. Anderson will box another Sheffield star, Wayne Reed, over six rounds on an Alex Arthur Triple AAA bill. Arthur himself will top the bill and is awaiting news on his opponent, likely to come from either France or Georgia.

John McCallum will make his debut at welterweight against South African Bheki Moyo while Gilmerton featherweight Jason Hastie will box a six-rounders against Marcus McCrae.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh’s unbeaten cruiserweight Steve Simmons faces a big step up in against English Southern Area champion Tony Conquest at London’s York Hall on April 12 in his first ten-round contest.

Said Simmons: “I believe I’m faster than he is and have a better left jab.”
