Glasgow 2014: Lewis Benson to face Kiwi in last 32

Have your say

Lewis Benson begins his pursuit of Commonwealth gold today when he faces New Zealand’s Bowyn Morgan in the 69kg round of 32 at Glasgow’s SECC.

The Lochend star, 22, is scheduled to fight this afternoon and, should he prevail, will fight either Botswana’s Mmusi Tswiige or Lesotho’s Kokole Paneng in the last-16 on Monday.

Elsewhere, Benson’s team-mate and 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Josh Taylor starts his competition tomorrow in the round of 32’s 64kg clash with Botswana’s Kagiso Bagwasi. Should he progress, however, he will have less than 24 hours to prepare for Sunday’s bout with either St Lucia’s Lyndel Marcellin or Mauritius’ Richarno Colin standing in the 23-year-old’s way of a quarter-final place.
