PRESTONPANS featherweight Josh Taylor made a winning professional debut by defeating opponent Archie Weah last night.

The former Lochend star – fighting on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s successful IBF super-bantamweight title defence against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr – stopped Weah in the second round of their bout at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

Weah had come out swinging in the first round but was soon taking some heavy shots from southpaw Taylor with a hard right hand dropping the American in the opening minute of the second round. Although Weah did get up at the eight count, the fight was stopped less then 30 seconds later as Taylor kept up his attack.
