'Not all heroes wear capes' - boxing world champ Josh Taylor's dad helps hard-up mum pay for her shopping
The father of world boxing champion Josh Taylor has shown some true Christmas spirit - after he helped out a hard-up mum by paying for her shopping.
Jamie Taylor has been hailed as a “hero” after he stepped in to help young mum Jamie-Lee Hunter with her shopping bill when the pair met in a shop in Prestonpans, East Lothian.
The mother-of-one was caught short at the till but was soon left overwhelmed when the unified light-welterweight champ’s dad dug deep into his own pocket.
Jamie-Lee admitted she was near to tears with the generous act and posted a heartfelt message of thanks to her saviour on a community Facebook page.
She said: “Josh Taylor’s dad - I can’t find him on Facebook.
“Just want to say thank you again for paying for the last of my shopping today.
“I’m really struggling right now and you didn’t have to help. Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Hundreds of locals and fans of world champion Josh have also been quick to praise the boxer’s generous dad by adding their admiration on social media.
Jodie Mckeown posted: “One of the kindest gentlemen I have ever known - well done Jamie.”
Jacqueline Neilson said: “This makes me believe there are good people out there.”
And Janet Connachan added: “That was a really great thing for him to do - so nice.”
Jamie-Lee, from Prestonpans, later added: “I was about crying in the bloody shop. Absolute gentleman.”
