Commonwealth Games boxer Lewis Benson, from the Lochend club, has received sponsorship to assist preparations for Glasgow 2014 from solicitors’ firm Purdie & Co, Haymarket.
The arrangement comes after Purdie & Co employee Struan Douglas trained at Lochend ABC for three months in the build up to a contest under amateur rules.
Struan said: “Lochend is an amazing place – a fantastic atmosphere with superb coaches in Terry McCormack and his team.
“I have experienced some fantastic coaching in a variety of sports, mainly rugby union and league, and been to some great places but there is something unique about Lochend and the team behind it.
“It was brought to my attention the lack of funding that was available for our Commonwealth games boxers and Lewis gave up his job as an electrician to concentrate on getting into the Games team and hopefully winning gold.”
