Champions Blaze a trail to the Emirates with Saints

New Scottish League basketball champions Boroughmuir Blaze have welcomed the chance to play in a challenge match against Scottish Cup winners St Mirren before the BBL Trophy Final at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow tomorrow at noon.

“This will be a new experience for us and one we welcome,” says Blaze coach Simon Turner, who has to guide his team in one last regular season game against last year’s champions Falkirk Fury at the Mariner Sports Centre tonight at 8pm.

Regardless of the result Blaze will top the table and Fury will miss out on a Top Four spot for the Play-Offs, though they will finish fifth and could still come through to contest the Play-Off Final.

Fury will play the fourth finisher and that has still to be decided with Glasgow University, Edinburgh University and St Mirren lying two, three and four ahead of this weekend’s last flourish.

EU have a potentially tricky away game at Dalry tonight (8pm) against an Ayrshire Tornadoes side desperate to get off the bottom of the table and remove the threat of relegation.

The Capital students must then win away to Glasgow Univeristy at the Stevenson Building on Sunday (11.30am), the game very sensibly having been moved to avoid a clash with the BBL Trophy final between Newcastle Eagles and Leicester Riders, which tips off at 3.30pm tomorrow.

A win for EU in both games would clinch runners-up spot.

EU women, already sure of their first league title, finish their regular season away to Polonia Phoenix at Gracemount High tomorrow at 11am.
