City women make it title three in a row

CITY OF EDINBURGH have won the women’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League title for the third time in a row after a two-leg battle with Troon PA.

The Capital side effectively did the hard work in Saturday’s first leg at South Queensferry which they won in straight sets 28-26, 25-17, 25-14.

The Capital side they went into yesterday’s second leg in Ayr knowing just one set would be enough to give them the title but Troon made them battle all the way.

The home side took the first set but Edinburgh fought back to win the second set which was to prove enough, even though they went on to lose by 3-1 on sets.

The two teams meet again on Sunday in the Scottish Cup final.

In the men’s play-off final, there was disappointment for City of Edinburgh who lost both legs to Kilmarnock Blaze.

The Capital side had it all to do after losing the first leg 23-25, 15-25, 25-17, 28-30 on Saturday but were confident they could turn the tables with home advantage.

But Kilmarnock were not to be denied and came through 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-9 to win the title for the first time in four years.

City of Edinburgh II also missed out on promotion to Division One when they lost their play-off with Troon PA 13-25, 18-25, 25-18, 23-25.
