Scotland cricket captain Preston Mommsen is looking for his team to start 2016 in a positive fashion in tomorrow's Intercontinental match with Hong Kong in Mong Kok.

The Scots had a hectic 2015 with the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand and Australia and then the Twenty20 World qualifiers at home and in Ireland.

This year begins with the four-day Intercontinental Cup clash, followed by two ODIs and two Twenty20s against the same opponents.

The squad will then travel home for a couple of weeks in February before head coach Grant Bradburn makes his final selection for the Twenty20 World event in India in March.

Carlton all-rounder Mommsen said: “It was good after the domestic season last summer for the guys to get a couple of weeks off to recover after a busy time, but as soon as we were back in training in the lead up to Christmas these Hong Kong matches were our focus.

“Yes, the Twenty20 World event is in the back of our minds, but the guys know that places are still up for grabs for that trip and they need to perform in Hong Kong first and foremost.

“We know that Hong Kong have been steadily improving and on their home turf they will want to take our scalp. We will have to be at our best.”

As well as Mommsen, fellow Capital trio Ali Evans (Carlton), George Munsey (Mazars Grange) and Mark Watt (Heriot’s) will be looking to make it into the Scots team tomorrow.
