Andrew Chalmers hits 46 as Watsonians enjoy Masterton victory

There were wins for Watsonians, Heriot’s and RH Corstorphine this week in the Murgitroyd Masterton Trophy.

Andrew Chalmers made 46 as Watsonians defeated Marchmont at Myreside on Thursday. He was well backed up by Mike Carson as they posted 157-5 from their 20 overs.

In reply Baillle Gifford ESCA Championship side Marchmont were 5-5 as Dewald Nel and Andy McKay struck. Credit to Marchmont, 36 from Ben Duerden saw them make 75-8 as Watsonians won by 82 runs.

That match was in League Two and in the same section Heriot’s went to Stuart&Stuart Penicuik and won.

Batting first Hayes van der Berg scored a half century as Heriot’s posted 166-3, eventually winning by 30 runs.

At Barnton, Edinburgh Accies batted first against SMRH and set their hosts 137 to win. In the Accies innings Majid Haq took three wickets and Joe Kinghorn-Gray took two.

In their reply Haq and Gray were again in the action, scoring 30 and 30 not out respectively to lead their side home by five wickets.

Edinburgh had a walkover against Edinbugh University in League One.
