Cricket: Carlton skittle out Clydesdale and add Twenty20 title to Premiership crown

In their semi-final against Dumfries they batted first and struggled a bit, Cedric English and Preston Mommsen getting out early. However they managed to make it up to 113-9 with Ross Burns top scoring with 30. In reply Dumfries could only make 65-7 with all Carlton’s bowlers chipping in along with some great fielding.

That meant a final against Clydesdale who had seen off Dunfermline Knights in the other last-four clash.

As the afternoon had stretched on the final was reduced to 18-overs-a-side and Carlton’s bowlers were on fire.

Overseas amateur Jason Trembath and Sean Olivier took early wickets to reduce Clydesdale to 14-2 after five overs and by the 13th over they had only made it to 43-7 with Mommsen’s spin picking up three cheap scalps.

They eventually finished on 67-9 which was never likely to give the Carlton batsmen any problems.

In worsening light Carlton tried to get the job finished quickly and had progressed to 26 before Trembath was the first man out.

Decent innings from Burns and English soon saw them home by eight wickets to finish the club’s super summer and win the event for the third time in four years.

Meanwhile, Fauldhouse lost out to Prestwick on Saturday in their SNCL play-off match.

The men from the west scored 223-8 batting first and Fauldhouse slumped from 84-3 to 125 all out in reply.
