Cricket: Heriot’s bowler Keith puts Stirling in a spin in Scots Cup

Keith Morton continued his fine start to the cricket season as Heriot’s made it two wins out of two in the Scottish Cup group stages on Saturday.

The Scotland Lions spinner has taken seven wickets in two matches now after his 4-25 helped his team to comfortably defeat Stirling County at New Williamsfield in group B.

The hosts were bowled out for 142 batting first and then Craig Adams, who recently returned to the Goldenacre club, top scored with 32 as Heriot’s made it home with three wickets to spare.

In the same group Edinburgh Accies have had a poor start to the campaign, following up last week’s loss to County with another to Ferguslie.

They were bowled out for just 54 as Ferguslie won by ten wickets.

Giles Holmes and Simon Smith both hit half centuries as Grange got their season up and running with an impressive victory over holders Uddingston at Bothwell Castle.

The home side batted first and made 190-8, Scotland man Ryan Flannigan taking three scalps on his Grange debut.

The experienced duo then did well with the bat as Grange chased down the total.

Also in group C the Fauldhouse-Renfrew match was off.

Carlton and Watsonians recorded victories on Saturday.

New overseas amateur Michael Herdman took five Greenock wickets for just six runs as Carlton bowled out the hosts for just 87 at Glenpark.

In reply Carlton wobbled slightly, but their Scotland man Preston Mommsen led them to victory with 55 not out.

Also in group E the Falkland-Poloc match was off.

Ewan Chalmers showed his quality in group A with 90 runs as Watsonians came back from Dumfries with a victory.

Former Scotland skipper Craig Wright hit 40 on his birthday as they posted 217-9 batting first.

Teenager Pete Legget then took three wickets and South African pro Jean Symes took two on debut as Dumfries were all out for 161.

In the same group Kris Steel scored 62, but Penicuik lost out to Weirs.

Teenage spinner Haris Aslam showed his undoubted potential for SMRH against Arbroath, but his three wickets were not enough to help them to victory.

Batting first at Inverleith Arbroath posted a total of 161-9 with Robin Crouch also taking three wickets as well as Aslam.

In reply the Capital men were bowled out for just 76 as the visitors won by 85 runs.

In group F West Lothian lost out to Kelburne.
