Stuart&Stuart Penicuik put in one of their best performances of the season to defeat Edinburgh South in the Baillie Gifford ESCA Championship on Saturday.
The Midlothian men headed into the match with three league wins under their belts this summer, but by the evening had made that four after a thrilling contest.
Batting first at Kirkhill, Kris Steel led the way with 94 for the home side, while vice-skipper Sean Taylor made 67 and Scotland age-grade cap Chris Cash chipped in with 37 as they made 261-6. Matthew Chapman was the pick of the bowlers for Edinburgh South with 3-59.
In Edinburgh South’s reply, South African Darryl Hendricks was always going to be key and he managed to do his best with 123, taking him over 500 league runs for the season.
However, Calum Steel was the star with the ball for Penicuik, taking 5-18 as they managed to bowl Edinburgh South out for 252 to win by nine runs.
In another close finish at Portgower Place, Mazars Grange II managed to edge out Carlton II by one wicket.
RH Corstorphine managed to beat West Lothian by seven wickets via the D/L method to keep their title challenge alive.
