Shah takes centre stage as his double hundred sees off Watsonians

Have your say

Ali SHAH hit a quite
brilliant 207 not out to start off the East One cricket season in style for Carlton II as they recorded an opening day win over
Watsonians II.

Last year Carlton II were pipped to the title by Glenrothes, but look keen to go one better in 2013 if their start is anything to go by.

Opening batsman Shah
carried his bat for the hosts at Grange Loan, the double
hundred taking centre
stage with the next highest scoring batsman making just 22.

They eventually made 301-5 from their 50 overs, ’Sonians’ bowlers struggling and giving away 32 extras during a hard stint in the field.

Opener James Easton gave the visitors some hope in what looked like an impossible run chase with 76, but he was
one of four scalps for Fraser
Allardice. Omar Ahmad and Rob Thornton chipped in
with two wickets apiece as Watsonians II were bowled out for 186.

Elsewhere in East One on
Saturday, Charlie Ellis scored 68 and took five wickets as Holy Cross edged past

Batting first, Jimmy McOscar supported Ellis with 60 on his debut as Holy Cross made
174-8 and then the East Lothian side were bowled out for 155 in reply. Geraint Jones bagged seven wickets as Edinburgh Accies won at McKane Park against Dunfermline while Murrayfield DAFS saw off top flight new boys St Boswells.

The Edinburgh South-Grange II clash was postponed due to difficulties getting the pitch at The Inch ready in time.
