HOLY CROSS lifted the Active Edinburgh Twenty20 cricket trophy in dramatic circumstances, defeating Edinburgh in a tight final at Myreside.

Batting first, Holy Cross got off to a good start only to lose Raja Javed for 18 with the score on 28. Zia Ul-haq followed soon after and the Ediinburgh bowlers were beginning to take the upper hand. They reduced Holy Cross to 73-5 before Charlie Ellis got the score up over 100 and then hit two 4s and a 6 in the final over of the innings as the men from Arboretum posted 134-7.

In Edinburgh’s reply, Kashif Parvez took a couple of wickets for Holy Cross as the former slipped to 15-2.

After ten overs, Edinburgh had reached 60-4 and, with four overs left, they needed 23 runs with two wickets in hand.

Ten runs were needed off the last over, but Holy Cross just held on to win thanks to a run out off the second last ball.

In the semi-finals, Edinburgh had progressed after defeating SMRH while Holy Cross beat Murrayfield DAFS.

In the latter match Ul-haq led the way with 39.
