Mouat lost 8-7 to double world champion David Murdoch on Sunday night but won his other three round-robin fixtures before going down at the 11th end yesterday as two-time world runner-up Tom Brewster squeezed home 7-6.

Aitken opened her ladies campaign with back-to-back losses on Monday, but showed glimpses of her true form with an 8-6 victory yesterday over Lockerbie’s Hannah Fleming.

Gina’s younger sister Karina is still waiting to get off the mark after losing 7-4 to Glasgow’s Olympic bronze medallist Lauren Gray.
