Curling: Campbell beaten in Perth

Edinburgh curler Colin Campbell and his team-mates saw their hopes finally snuffed out by double world champion David Murdoch at the European Championship play-offs in Perth.

Campbell, John Penny, Scott MacLeod and skip David Edwards lost their opening four round robin matches on Thursday and Friday but roared back into contention with narrow wins over Murdoch and Forfar’s Sandy Reid.

That meant a sudden death tie-break competition after three rinks were tied for second place behind world silver medallist Tom Brewster.

Campbell and company stayed alive by scoring two stones at the final end to pip Reid 6-5, but Murdoch ended their challenge when he grabbed a triple at the seventh end to win 5-3.
