Cycling: Alison rides away with Masters gold

Capital cyclist Alison Chisholm was today celebrating an impressive victory in the women’s 500 metres time trial at the World Masters Track Championships in Manchester.

Competing in the 35-39 years age group, the Edinburgh RC rider clocked a time of 37.166 seconds to take the title by more than a second from the Australian duo Sandra Bletchley and Cheryl Hulskamp.

Meanwhile, South Queensferry’s Ross Creber and his fellow Commonwealth Games rider David Lines feature in a five-strong Scotland team for Sunday’s International Criterium de Levallois on the outskirts of Paris.

The duo will be joined by Aberdonian Liam Cowie, a team-mate of Lines at the Livingston-based Endura Pedal Power Development Team, as well as Glaswegians Andrew Whitehall and Graeme Neagle.

A crowd of 15,000 is expected for the 108 kilometre event, contested over 60 laps of a 1.8 kilometre circuit.

The race is the second largest cycling event in the Paris region after the closing stage of the Tour de France.

This will be the fifth time Scotland has featured in a high-class international field that this year includes teams from Germany, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Luxembourg, plus several squads from France.
