Croall and Haston face tough tests

Capital cycling star Bruce Croall will launch his bid 
for an eighth successive 
Meadowbank National Track League title when the 
opening round of racing takes place this evening (first event 7.15pm).

The City of Edinburgh 
rider’s consistency has been the key to his success over the years.

His closest challenger has been Dave Martin of the Bicycleworks, who is again likely to come into the reckoning, while last season’s third placed finisher Phil Trodden, also racing in the City of Edinburgh colours, could be the man to push Croall this time.

The women’s champion Louise Haston (City of Edinburgh) could face a tough task to retain her title, with her team mate, last year’s runner up Katy Archibald the rider to beat as she steps up from the junior ranks.

Archibald has benefited from the opening of the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow 
and has already achieved a qualifying time for next 
year’s Commonwealth
