Cycling: Hand back in saddle at Strathaven

Have your say

WEST LOTHIAN cyclist Gary Hand will have his first outing since winning the Scottish title when he lines up in tomorrow’s Anderside Classic in Strathaven against a field drawn from around Britain.

The Herbalife Leisure Lakes Bikes rider is joined for the 86-mile event by several top-class team mates from the Lancashire-based outfit, among them another Lothians man, Alex Coutts. Others in the field include their former colleague and last year’s winner Robbie Hassan, who is back from Spain where he is sending the season with Team Ibaigane Opel, and Capital rider Evan Oliphant, back in the colours of Team Raleigh following his solid effort for Team Scotland at the An Post Ras in Ireland.

Meanwhile, Meadowbank Velodrome will be the venue on Sunday (10am) for the Scottish round of the British Cycling Omnium Series for riders under the age of 16.

Riders from Edinburgh Road Club feature prominently on the list of competitors.
