Lothians cyclist Evan Oliphant will be looking to add to his collection of Scottish champion’s jerseys when he lines up for Sunday’s Criterium Championship in Stirling.
The 33-year-old Team Raleigh-GAC rider surrendered his road race title last month when he took bronze behind Steve Lawley (Neon Velo) in Ayrshire.
Sunday’s race comes after a busy spell for Oliphant, who was involved in the support events at the Lee Valley Velodrome in London on Sunday when Sir Bradley Wiggins broke the hour record. And he was back on the roads during the week for the Pearl Izumi Tour Series.
Joining Oliphant and Lawley in a strong field will be Capital riders Finlay Young and Phil Trodden, now competing in the colours of Team Moda Anon.
With several top riders absent from the women’s event, the race is wide open. Likely podium contenders include rising Edinburgh stars Lulu Bartlett (The Racers) and Louise Borthwick (Project 51).
Among the age group competitors, last year’s Under-12 champion Anna Flynn (Edinburgh RC) moves up to the Under-14 category while several other Capital riders will make the trip with high hopes of featuring in the medals.
