Cycling: Stockton test for McCallum and Oliphant

Have your say

Cyclists James McCallum and Evan Oliphant will continue their intense Commonwealth Games build up when they compete at the three-day Stockton Cycling Festival this weekend.

McCallum confirmed his good form with a sixth place finish at the British Circuit Race Championships in Hull on Wednesday, will return to the saddle for the town centre criterium tonight, and will be joined on the starting line by Oliphant.

The Edinburgh duo will also contest Sunday’s Grand
Prix, a round of the British Cycling Elite Series, over 104 miles. Oliphant, who took the honours in the series last
season, currently lies sixth in the overall standings.

Also making the trip south will be West Lothian-based Gary Hand and Edinburgh
firefighter Davie Lines.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh
teenager Louise Borthwick, who produced her best result of the season when she finished sixth at the British Championships in Hull, will be looking to build on that performance when she competes at the Essex Giro 2 Stage Race. Despite its name, the event will be contested over three disciplines with tomorrow’s schedule featuring a short time trial in the morning and a circuit race in the afternoon. It concludes with a 75-mile road stage on Sunday.
