Lothians cyclist James McCallum will be racing in new colours next season after agreeing a switch from the Rapha Condor-JLT team to the ambitious NFTO squad. The team, which is based in Hereford, was formed as an amateur outfit two years ago but will compete at UCI Continental professional level in 2014.
McCallum, a Commonwealth Games track bronze medallist in Melbourne seven years ago, has aspirations of competing at his fourth Games in Glasgow next year.
Among his new team-mates will be Russell Downing, the former Team Sky and Net-App Endura rider who is the current criterium champion. Also on the roster at NFTO will be Sam Harrison, the holder of the British Under-23 time trial title and a team pursuit silver medallist at this year’s World Track Championships, and his fellow Welshman Matt Rowe, a former world junior track champion.
The team, which hopes to compete on the continent and around Britain, will announce further signings in the coming weeks, the likelihood being that other new arrivals will include riders currently competing in the Tour of Britain.
