Capital cyclist Evan Oliphant made a solid start to his season when he finished towards the head of the main bunch in the 54th Eddie Soens Memorial at Aintree Racecourse

Oliphant and his 11 Team Raleigh colleagues were all prominent in the early stages of the 50-mile race. However, he missed out on the key five-man break and was left to contest the bunch sprint.

The 33-year-old Scottish road race champion finished in 11th place, with colleague and defending champion Ian Wilkinson taking third spot behind Pete Williams, who led a 1-2 for the One Pro Cycling team ahead of Sam Williams.
