Lothians cyclist Evan Oliphant added the 2015 Scottish Criterium title to his list of career honours with an impressive performance.
The Team Raleigh-GAC rider had surrendered the Scottish road race title to in-form Steven Lawley (Team Neon-Velo) two weeks ago. And the same duo were locked in battle around the streets of Stirling in the latest showdown.
Despite their best efforts, neither rider managed to break clear. And, on this occasion, Oliphant used his guile and power to shrug off the attentions of his rival on the climb to the finish at Stirling castle and secure the victory. Capital firefighter Davie Lines, riding in the colours of Velosure Starley Primal, completed the podium.
Erika Allan (Team Thomson’s Cycles) took the women’s title after a keenly contested race, with Louise Borthwick (Project 51) the leading finisher from the East, crossing the line in fifth spot. There were podium finishes for Edinburgh Road Club riders Eva Barnett (Under 14) and Murray Lawson (Under 12) who each earned a bronze medal and Finn Mason (West Lothian Clarion) took silver in the Under-10 category.
