CYCLING duo Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean overcame fatigue to win their second gold medal of the Commonwealth Games by edging out Australia 2-1 in the Para-sport tandem sprint for blind and visually impaired athletes.

Fachie and his pilot MacLean, who is affiliated to the City of Edinburgh Racing Club, served up a sensational comeback against Kieran Modra and Jason Niblett on Saturday. Fachie and MacLean lost the first leg, but managed to summon up enough energy to claim the following two and with it the gold medal.

Their achievement was made all the more impressive due to them winning the 1000m time-trial just 24 hours earlier.

“We were suffering – how we got through it I don’t know,” said Fachie.

“I thought yesterday was hard, but this was ridiculous. After the first ride we thought we were done for, but the crowd were amazing and I’m never going to forget this.”
