City of Edinburgh cyclist Katie Archibald has been rewarded for her outstanding performances this season with her first professional contract.

Archibald, whose rise to prominence has been recognised with a place in the Great Britain team to compete at this weekend’s European Track Championships in the Netherlands, has signed a deal with the Madison Boot Out Breast Cancer Cycling Team.

Among those joining her in the nine-strong squad is another former City of Edinburgh rider, Charline Joiner, who makes the move from the MG-Maxifuel team.

Also on the list is multi Paralympic champion Sarah Storey, whose husband Barney will be director of the team which will contest UK and UCI level events on the road, although several of the riders also have track aspirations.

He underlined the quality of the riders at his disposal next season, saying, “There is so much talent in the UK women’s racing scene and so it was a tough job selecting our final line-up.

“I am delighted to have been able to select riders who all have strong international experience and have the ambition to ride at the highest level. It is also a bonus they all come with a great track pedigree too.”
