Lothians cyclist Evan Oliphant had a solid debut for his new team Wheelbase Altura, crossing the line in the leading bunch at the Klondike Grand Prix in Yorkshire, the opening round of the HSBC Spring Series.
The race, which attracted massive roadside crowds, featured several attempted breakaways. However, they were all reeled in and the event concluded with a sprint contested by 29 riders. Among them was Oliphant, although he was outsprinted in the race for the line and was credited with 24th spot, sharing the same time as the winner Chris Latham (Team Wiggins), who was using the event as a warm-up for the UCI World Track Championships in Hong Kong next week.
Next on the agenda for Oliphant will be the second event in the series, the Tour of the Wolds in Lincolnshire.
The race will be contested by a 150-strong field over a 102-mile route and will finish in the town of Louth.
