Bosses at West Lothian cycling outfit Endura Racing Team were today coming to terms with the departure of star man Jonathan Tiernan-Locke.
The 27-year-old Englishman, whose results this season have included overall wins in the Tour Méditerranéen, Haut Var, and Tour of Alsace, has announced that he is leaving to compete at a higher level.
Although his destination has not yet been confirmed, the favourites to land the climbing specialist are Team Sky. Earlier this year, Tiernan-Locke trained with the squad that includes Tour de France stars Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Mark Cavendish.
Endura team manager Brian Smith said: “I know for a fact that he has signed a letter of intent of signing with Team Sky.”
If Tiernan-Locke does join Team Sky he will see his new colleagues at close quarters when he lines up for Endura in next month’s Tour of Britain.
