Cyclists saddle up for glory

A CLUTCH of riders from cycling clubs in the Lothians will be chasing success in tonight’s opening session of the British Track Championships in Manchester, writes COLIN RENTON.

Commonwealth Games team sprint medallists Charline Joiner and Jenny Davis from the City of Edinburgh club, plus European Masters champion Alison Chisholm (Edinburgh RC) are among the competitors in the women’s 500 metres time trial. They face a stern test against a field that includes Olympic pursuit champion Rebecca Romero.

It will be no easier for Alistair Taylor (Musselburgh RRC) who features in the senior men’s 4 kilometre pursuit against top opposition that includes another Olympic gold medallist in the shape of Steven Burke, plus leading road racer Ben Swift.

The final gold medal handed out tonight will be in the paracycling time trial, where Scot Aileen McGlynn is expected to feature on the podium.
