Doug content with 9th in Oz
Edinburgh squash player Doug Kempsell looked on the bright side as he and Kevin '¨Moran finished ninth at the World Doubles Championships in Darwin, Australia.
The No.10 seeds bounced back from four Group B defeats with a hard-fought 10-11, 11-9, 11-9 victory over Malaysia’s Sanjay Chal and Ivan Yuen in yesterday’s play-off match.
“We were seeded tenth but finished ninth, so it’s not too bad,” said Kempsell. “We had hoped for better, but it was a good learning experience for us.”
Meanwhile, Scottish champions Alan Clyne and Greg Lobban stormed through to today’s final after stunning Australian top seeds Cameron Pilley and Ryan Cuskelly 11-9, 7-11, 11-7. Australia’s Zac Alexander and 40-year-old David Palmer stand between the duo and the biggest title of their careers.
