With terrible wind and rain sweeping across the Capital and surrounding areas on Friday and then overnight snow falling into Saturday the majority of East League matches were called off early in the morning.

However, Dunbar’s Hallhill ground is very rarely deemed unplayable and it was in good condition for the visit of the Borderers.

Dunbar had not won a match since they defeated Murrayfield Wanderers 14-13 back on November 21. The poor run had left them in the bottom half of the table, but for this game they were nearly at full-strength.

As the match kicked off the wind was causing havoc and making running rugby tough.

Dunbar took the lead thanks to a John Peebles try converted by Ross Charlton, but it was not until just before the break that they got their second. This one was scored by Ewan Patrizio with Charlton again converting.

That left the East Lothian side searching for a four-try bonus point in the second 40 minutes and they managed to secure it thanks to scores from Stuart Crichton and another from Patrizio.

The Borders side did score one try, but once Dunbar got used to the conditions they were always on top to win 24-5. Dunbar are now sixth in the table.
