Duncan Stewart targeting success in Australia

Duncan Stewart is playing the European Tour's Super 6 event

The Kirkliston-based player joins Grant Forrest, Bradley Neil and Connor Syme in flying the Saltire in the ISPS Handa-sponsored tournament, which starts tomorrow at Lake Karrinyup.

The top 65 and ties after two rounds of stroke-play qualify for the third round, after which the field is reduced to just 24 for a series of six-hole knock-out matches.

Stewart came through a play-off 12 months ago to make it to the knock-out phase before losing to Japan’s Hideto Tanihara in the first round.

“I’m looking forward to this week as I really enjoyed the course last year and it’s a very good event,” he said, having warmed up for it by playing in a Mediterranean Tour winter series tournament in Egypt.

After losing his card at the end of last season, this will be a rare outing for Stewart on the European Tour this year but the 33-year-old is hoping to have a seat back at the top table before too long.

“Although I didn’t quite keep my card last year, I took a lot of positives and the biggest one was that I felt very comfortable in the environment and that I felt like I was good enough to be out there,” he said. “I’m extremely determined to get back out there full time and I’m working on everything on and off the course to make marginal gains in every possible area which will hopefully make me a better and more consistent player.”
