EAC fourth in first Premier League meeting of the season

Edinburgh Athletic Club team manager Anne Scott declared herself reasonably satisfied after her under-strength team finished a close-up fourth in the first of the season's UK Women's League Premier Division matches at Swansea.

Susan McKelvie threw 61.58 metres in the hammer for EAC

Helped by Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games reps Susan McKelvie and Sarah Warnock, EAC took maximum points in the hammer, where McKelvie (61.58 metres) and Hannah Evenden won the A and B events, and long jump where Warnock (5.95m) and Rachel Robertson cleaned up.

The top EAC performer of the meeting was 17-year-old Alisha Rees who gave two superb sprint displays in her first outing for the club since transferring her first-claim allegiance from Banchory.

Rees finished second to Swansea flyer Hannah Brier (11.47 sces) in the 100m in 11.73 secs, just .02 outside her best, then followed with a fine victory in the 200m in 23.64 secs, a qualifying time for the World Under-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland next month.

Her 200m time, a personal best by .47 sec, was set despite a headwind in the straight of -1.3 metres per second.

Aberdeen University’s Zoey Clark, another Glasgow 2014 rep, won the 400 metres for overall winners Thames Valley in 53.18 secs.
