Edinburgh Western ready for a Dispatch high noon

It’s 16 years since one of the Braids clubs – Harrison – lifted the coveted trophy, so they certainly shouldn’t be lacking in terms of incentive.

“Our first team has Danny Cameron and David Wilson from last year’s team,” reported Steven Park of the Edinburgh Western gun-slingers.

“Andrew Rennie returns to partner David, having been unavailable last year, and Robert Kay steps up from the second team for the first time.

“Robert is in fine form, having just won the Louis Mair Trophy at the weekend, and David will be glad to get his old partner back as Danny had a habit of putting him in bunkers last year!”

Western’s second team also has two changes, with Rankin Taylor making his first appearance for a few years to partner James Cunningham in a side that also includes Brian Kennedy and Andrew McLelland.

“There’s a wee bit of extra pressure on Andrew to get through the first round as he’s got an agreement with Robert that first one out caddies for the other,” added Park.

As club champion, Brian Byars steps up to the Harrison top team, where he joins forces with Stuart More, Dougie Waugh and Allan Stewart, while it’s Justin White, Donny Munro, John Cafferty and Cameron Bruce in the B line-up.

Bruce steps up from the Seniors’ side to replace Scott Knowles, who is in the Stephen Gallacher Foundation team that is making its debut in an event being sponsored by golfclubs4cash.

Watsonians will choose from a mix of youth and experience from a squad made up of Andrew Hogg, Richard Craig, Rob Paterson, Tom Foster, Greg Nicolson and Andrew Weir, while the Buckstone Golfing Society side is Derek Hall, Andrew Shaw, Gordon Shaw and Ross Weir.

RICS have confirmed a line up of Brian Tait, Stuart Agnew, Mike Armstrong and Mike Corrie, while Turnhouse team BBT could make their mark with Steven Armstrong, Olly McCrone, Andrew Young and Neil Anderson.
