Fantastic fish at Millhall

One of the most under-rated fisheries in the central belt has got to be Millhall Fishery at Polmont, writes STUART FRASER.

When I arrived, several anglers were already put along the dam wall. I decided to keep away from the pack and made for the far bank near to the pylons. Fish were peppered all over but were proving elusive except to the boat anglers. I stuck to a floating line with a single dry fly in fairly shallow water. There was a presence of algae but nothing to worry about unless fishing a sinking line. I watched intently as fish after fish would swirl at my offering but could not get a lock on. It was not until I started tweaking the fly when anything was in range that I got a response. My problem was I could not get the timing right as several fish took my fly but I kept missing them. When I eventually connected, the fish put up a real scrap. It was of 3lb and it was right in the scissors so there was no chance of escape. The sport was exceptional and it kept up all day even when the sun came out.

All the fish I saw getting caught were fin and tail perfect and the punters were happy with the quality. Next time I go I really must try the boat as they were connecting into good fish most of the session. Still, I enjoyed my day and the company was good so I can’t complain.
